EST. 2009
Since 2009, Laird Hatters has crafted luxury headwear from workshops and stores across London, Oxford, and Cambridge — beginning, in spirit, on the very street where this photograph was taken. Each piece can be found in person at any of our stores, or made just as readily available online, for those who prefer to discover us that way.

The making of a Laird
-
No. 01 - Sample and test
Every new style is tested against our existing lines for durability and finish before it enters production.
-
No. 02 - Sort and assess
Fabric arrives at our Hertfordshire workshop, where it is sorted and matched to style and season.
-
No. 03 - Cut by hand
Panels are chalked and cut by hand — never laser-cut — giving each piece its own individual character.
-
No. 04 - Sew and press
Sewn on traditional machinery, finished by hand. Every seam is pressed for a structured, lasting shape.
-
No. 05 - Label
Bespoke pieces receive a second, specialised label alongside the standard Laird mark.
-
No. 06 - Steam and block
Set on our custom oak shaping blocks and steamed at a precise temperature to set the form.
-
No. 07 - Tack
Returned to our seamstresses for specialist tacking, securing the fabric tight to the brim.
-
No. 08 - The copper stud
Our signature detail, hand-set with a handheld press onto every cap and select hats.
-
No. 09 - Final check and pack
Inspected once more, then wrapped in branded tissue and packed for its journey to you.
The copper stud
A small detail, on purpose
Our first store had a stock of leftover copper piping. Rather than let it go to waste, we worked it into the identity of the brand — hand-set on every cap and select hats ever since. The same line now runs across the shelving in every Laird store and onto our Laird pins.

Co-Founders
The two behind Laird from the start, responsible for the brand's direction and the standard every hat is held to before it earns the Laird name.
A few things people ask
Do you offer bespoke hats?
Yes. Bespoke sits at the heart of what we do, and there's very little we won't consider — from a particular cloth to a personal detail that makes a piece entirely your own. The best starting point is a conversation: reach out via our contact page, and we'll take it from there.
Where are Laird hats made?
Every Laird hat is hand finished at our workshop in Hertfordshire, England.
Are Laird hats cut by machine or by hand?
By hand. Every panel is chalked out and cut using traditional techniques, not laser-cutting.
Where does Laird source its fabric from?
We source tweed, cotton, leather, linen, denim, cashmere, toquilla straw and wool from mills and suppliers across Poland, Italy, France and Scotland, alongside small British suppliers.
What is the copper stud on Laird caps?
Our signature detail, hand-set on every cap and select hats — originating from a stock of copper piping at our first store. The same aesthetic now runs across our store shelving and Laird pins, and has won a design award.
